Academic report: Professor Jie Kong was invited to make an academic report

On July 7, 2020, at the invitation of Professor Feng Shi, the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, professor Jie Kong of Northwestern Polytechnical University made a wonderful online academic report at the Tencent Meeting.
      In the report of " The Design of Hyperbranched Polymers and The Research of Derived Absorbing Materials", start with the perspective of structural precision design and characterization methodology of hyperbranched topology, Professor Jie Kong introduced the research on the precise construction of polymer hyperbranched topology and the synthesis of precursors and the application of hyperbranched polymer precursors in wave-transmitting/absorbing materials. 
      In order to improve the analysis and expression of the topology construction of hyperbranched polymers, Professor Jie Kong has defined concepts such as average number of cyclic structures, cyclic-average molecular weight, terminal index. After that, hyper-branched polymers with extremely high branching degree were synthesized through Disubstitution reaction, rigid space and other strategies, and the substitution group was further adjusted to synthesize multicolor fluorescent materials. The introduction of reversible covalent bonds has realized the reversible adjustment of the topological structure, make it feasible to synthesized self-healing and recyclable materials. Silicon, Boron, Nitrogen were introduced into the backbone to form polyborosilazane precursors. After pyrolysising, siliconboron carbonotide (SiBCN) ceramics can not only obtain the high temperature resistance like ceramic, but also maintain the machinability of the hyperbranched topology precursor.
      With the batch fabrication of SiBCN absorbing ceramics, Molecular engineering, Heterostructure and composite structure were also used to adjust the material properties, result in the ceramic materials with excellent high-temperature stability and board-frequency absorption properties. It can be applied to Military manufacturing such as radar and stealth aircraft.

   Profile of Professor Jie Kong.
      Prof. Dr. Jie Kong born in 1976 is full professor in Polymer Chemistry at Northwestern Polytechnical University and Dean of QMUL Engineering School. He is honored as New Century Excellent Talent in Chinese University and Excellent Young Scholar Award of Shaanxi Chemistry. He is co-chair of Precursor-Derived Ceramics Session in the 6th International Congress on Ceramics (ICC6), August 2016, Dresden, Germany. Prior to joining NPU, he worked at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Postdoctoral Fellow and at University of Bayreuth as Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. He studied at Northwestern Polytechnical University and received his Ph.D. in Material Science in 2004. His research interests include the design and synthesis of hyperbranched polymers, and their application in ceramic precursors and biomaterials. He has co-authored more than 96 peer-reviewed papers in archival journals, such as Macromolecules, Scientific Reports, Polym. Chem., J. Phys. Chem. B/C, and ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces. He is the principal investigator of four projects granted by National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Kong is the Council Member of Youth Committee of Chinese Materials Research Society, Council Member of and Shaanxi Province Chemical Society, Secretary of Humboldt-Club XI’AN.
